Let's get the story straight: Hempfield should not be embarrassed or ashamed for relying
on the services of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Hempfield is a wonderful and safe place to live. According to the 2009 Township Public Safety
Committee report and a 2008 Zogby poll, 99 percent of Hempfield residents interviewed feel safe. The same state police protection
present in Hempfield is available to all residents and communities in our commonwealth.
Hempfield is a community of approximately
42,000 hardworking residents who generously contribute approximately $25 million to the state each year in wage and transfer
taxes, not to mention the millions in sales taxes collected by the state from our commercial districts. In return for the
taxes, Hempfield residents receive state services such as state police protection.
Hempfield has received its share
of criticism lately. However, we have been able to provide our citizens with a high standard of living, safe neighborhoods
and low taxes without breaking anyone's bank.
Individual municipal decisions must remain local and should not be manipulated by outsiders
or mandated by Harrisburg politicians.
